In early December 2022, when the demolition fence was set up around our beloved St. Bernadette School, a sense of disbelief was in the hearts of many. Amidst this, a determined effort was made to salvage a limited number of bricks, hoping to create commemorative pieces. Bricks from the exterior of the school were gathered, and a craftsman was hired to create a hand-made oak base upon which to mount the brick. A design for an engraved metal plaque was chosen. On this engraved plaque, we pay tribute to those who taught in our school with loving dedication. We honor the parents, families, and parishioners who sacrificed so much to contribute to the building of our beloved school. Most importantly, we express our gratitude for the values that formed the foundation of our lives.
Bricks are $75 each and have been mounted on a wooden base of hand-crafted oak and crowned with an engraved plaque. The cost to create each base and plaque was $55, with an additional $20 going towards the St. Bernadette School Scholarship Fund. These scholarships are available to active parishioner families that have children attending Catholic schools in the area. The intent of the scholarship is to encourage involvement in the Catholic school system, and parents with children attending a Catholic grammar school or high school are eligible to apply.
If you no longer live in the Chicago area and are unable to pick up your commemorative brick in person, we will need to ship the brick to you, via UPS. Therefore, an additional amount of $50.00 will be needed to cover the costs of shipping the commemorative brick to you. If shipping is required, your payment should reflect this additional amount. We thank you for your cooperation.
